    Guidelines for the use of EUFICCS available for download!

     

    The EUFICCS team is pleased to announce that the “Guidelines to the use of the EUFICCS methodology for second language acquisition” are now available for download.

    “These guidelines to the use of the EUFICCS methodology for second language acquisition are based on observations and reflections made by the teams that in each institution participated in the development of the methodology during and after its practical experimentation, and are meant to be a useful tool for possible future implementations of EUFICCS in the fields of teaching and learning other languages as second languages, as part of either study programmes or other mobility experiences such as traineeships and voluntary service activities abroad.”

    The final conference for EUFICCS in Spain has been organised within the II International Conference on Bilingual Education in a Globalized World: two scenarios, a shared goal; which presents the perfect international and national framework for the presentation of EUFICCS’ results and products since the participating institutions share the common goal of enhancing the diversity and the importance of adaptive bilingual and multicultural programs.

    EUFICCS (European Use of Full Immersion: Culture, Content, Service for Language Learning) is project co-financed by the European Commission through the Lifelong Learning Programme 2007-2013 – Activity Key 2 Languages, promoted by the Associazione Culturale Ulisse in partnership with the study abroad program Siena Italian Studies, the University Fernando Pessoa in Porto (Portugal) and the Centro Lengua y Educación Intercultural in Granada CELEI (Spain) and has as objective the elaboration and experimentation of a second language acquisition methodology for students, interns, volunteers, workers and any other person involved in European and international mobility.

    The final conference (in Italian)organised in collaboration with the University of Siena will serve as an occasion to present the project’s results and products to the local and national community, in particular to all the institutions and organisations involved in international mobility.

    EUFICCS at the International Conference “Intercultural Horizons 2013”, Siena (Italy) October 7-9, 2013

    The EUFICCS partners in Italy – Associazione Culturale Ulisse and Siena Italian Studies – as members of the International Center for Intercultural Exchange in Siena contributed to the organization of the “Intercultural Horizons 2013” annual conference; which took place in Siena October 7-9 2013.

     

    For the 2013 edition, the conference had as theme “The Intercultural Competence: key to the new multicultural societies of the globalized world”. It was aimed to engaging educators and experts from all over the world in the examination of the challenges and results obtained from the development of the intercultural competence and from the active participation in a global context. It was directed to anyone involved in the education or intercultural exchange sectors; teachers, coordinators, mediators, administrators, and to those active in Service-Learning, language teaching, intercultural or cross-cultural communication, cross-cultural psychology and international education.

     

    One of the concurrent panel sessions was dedicated to the presentation of the EUFICCS project. Professor Antonella Filippone – teacher coordinator for the Italian work group – and Dr. Elena Cellai – project coordinator – illustrated to the participants the aims, specific objectives and the european partnership of the project; as well as, the EUFICCS methodology elements, current activities  and future developments.

    The conference was organized by Macao Polytechnic Institute and Xinjiang Normal University. The EUFICCS team mainly focused on how the project integrates itself on the European linguistic outlook.

    EUFICCS pilot courses have officially started!

    The four institutions participating in the EUFICCS project have started the three semester-long pilot courses to test  the EUFICCS methodology and then rework it on the basis of the experimentation results:

    in Portugal, at Universidade Fernando Pessoa in Porto, the pilot semester will run from February 4th to  May 21st and will involve 32 student;

    in Spain, at the Centro de Lenguas y Educación Intercultural in Granada, the pilot semester started on February 2nd and runs until May 17th with 14 students participating;

    in Italy, at Siena Italian Studies, in collaboration with Associazione Culturale Ulisse, in Siena, the pilot semester started on January 15th and runs until May 3rd with 12 students participating.

    During the test-runs, teachers of the consortium partners will visit each institution to observe pilot courses run in each town and discuss the practical implementation of the EUFICCS methodology’s components. The first teachers’ meeting took place in Siena, last February 25-27. The next ones are scheduled for March 20-22 in Granada, and April 10-12 in Porto.

    The conference, organized by FENICE (Federazione Nazionale Insegnanti) in the Lifelong Learning Programme KA2 project “CREALLE” framework:

    - offered presentations and workshops about the best creative practices in language teaching/learning;

    - provided an international platform for planning future practical steps for the dissemination of these practices and for addressing stakeholders and representatives of the project target groups from the European countries;

    - gathered project coordinators of EU funded and non-funded project for a mutual exchange of expertise and innovative methodologies in language teaching/learning;

    - hosted the interventions of some European Commission and EACEA officers who will provide participants with interesting insights about the new programme  LLP and about the role of the multilingualism in the new political framework;

    - gave participants the possibility of networking with several professionals in creative language learning from all Europe.

    The project fair, organized on the second day of the Conference,  permitted several LLP language projects to be disseminated and promoted to the large conference’s audience. EUFICCS project took part in the conference and was presented at the fair with its dedicated stand and contact person.

    The conference, dedicated to exchanging ideas, practices, and experiences in the development of intercultural competence, is co-sponsored by the State University of New York at Geneseo, Siena Italian Studies, and the Associazione Culturale Ulisse at the International Center for Intercultural Exchange.

    This conference was intended to engage educators and experts from a variety of perspectives in examining the challenges and achievements of civic engagement in a global context, and the evolving definitions of civic engagement in service learning and general education, with an emphasis on turning theory into practice.

    July Updates

    The partners involved in the EUFICCS project are currently at work to produce the course units and teacher handbook related the “Content” component of the methodology.
